![]() Instead, they gain a series of stats after beating bosses (even if party members aren’t on the field). In fact, characters don’t really level up. The increased accessibility makes it easier for newcomers to experience the game, and it helps veterans enjoy the nostalgia in a concentrated dose without the heavy slog of grinding levels and slow navigation.Ĭhrono Cross also benefits from these cheats because characters only truly level up after major boss or story-related fights. In general, I applaud these inclusions with older RPGs just because of how long they take to complete. You have access to double speed (even half speed, if you wish), invincibility, auto-attack, and the ability to avoid battles out in the field. Like Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX, Chrono Cross Remaster includes cheats to help make the experience quicker and easier. This version still sounds great, like the original soundtrack did, but many fans will see this as a failing for the remaster. The original soundtrack is also removed, unlike several Square Enix remasters, with the only score in the game being a redone version. ![]() That’s not to say that the final product here flops, but that just comes to show how very little actual enhancement went into the game. To be perfectly honest, filters and enhancements generated through emulators create something more refined. ![]() Some textures receive adjustments, mostly faces, but the rest of it comes mostly from smoothing out edges. Realistically, Square Enix did very little to improve the visuals in Chrono Cross. The game should have simply given basic beginning instructions and either let you figure out the nuances on your own or given further instruction at a later time. The first ten hours don’t tax you too heavily on this aspect of the game, giving you plenty of time to explore how it all works without much risk. Apply fire enough times, and all fire abilities get stronger, which also leaves water abilities weaker. Each character utilizes an element, such as the standard RPG forays of fire, water, earth, etc, and these bring more to the battlefield than just abilities.īoth you and your enemies can adjust the field’s elemental affinity to strengthen certain elements. The other significant part of combat is managing elements. You can squeeze as many hits as you can in each turn with the stamina your character has available, with larger hits naturally requiring more stamina. The main concept is to build up your percentages with smaller attacks to make your larger attacks land more successfully. With each successful hit, the percentages for all of your subsequent hits increases. You have three levels of attacks, each one stronger than the other the stronger the attack, the lower the percentage of landing the hit. Melee consists of a risk-reward system based on percentages and levels of attacks. Also getting a copy from someone other than the original physical copy of the game, would also be illegal, such as downloading from someone, or them giving you a flash/burn copy.Combat offers some unique mechanics that reflect the spectrum of good and bad. The thing is not buying it, but using the physical copy.īasically the disk can never be illegal, but let say if someone rip the ISO/ROM from the disk, and distribute, then in this case what the person did was illegal, in some areas depending on their laws, you're entitled to having a backup of your games, as long you still have the original copy, and that you're not distributing a copy to anyone, or even online. If it IS illegal, that what is the point for you to even buy Chrono Cross from someone's hands, when it's even more illegal than playing a free rom. I mean, Chrono Trigger's IP still belongs to Square Enix.Ĭome on, remember how Square Enix closed Chrono Trigger fan-project, because this fan-game would "Hurt Square Enix's sales"ĭoesn't this "Re-selling" of old games considered the same thing as selling fan-games? Is it even legal to sell something that you bought officially? How can this "Re-buying" be considered legal? When you buy the game from someone who bought this game long ago, the money does not go to Square Enix. buying it from someone's hands is legal then? So emulation of Chrono Cross on PSX emulator is illegal if you don't have the original disc, right? i just want to know if you understand your own logic correctly.
